James Randall Smith Noted for Background in Criminal Justice Law

James Randall Smith presents cases before the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles

HOUSTON, TX, June 5, 2015, James Randall Smith, Attorney at Law, has been recognized for his dedication, leadership and excellence in criminal law.  He specializes in parole and parole revocation, criminal law and white-collar crime.  He also practices in DUI, murder, assault and drug cases.

Mr. Smith has nearly 40 years of experience as an attorney, including 34 years as owner of his private practice.  On a daily basis, Mr. Smith presents cases to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles and works with other trial lawyers.  He has tried several cases in federal courts in Texas, California, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kansas and Tennessee.  Prior to starting his private practice, Mr. Smith worked for the law firm of Hutchinson and Martin where he tried cases related to personal injury, insurance defense, capital murder and state and federal criminal matters.

One of the highlights of Mr. Smith’s career included working on a pilot program for Harris County to represent the mentally ill who are charged with criminal matters.  When the program grew and became successful, it became part of the Harris County Public Defender’s Office.

A Texas native, Mr. Smith became involved in his profession through a progression of events.  He started off studying to become a doctor, but later decided to pursue the law.

Mr. Smith received his JD degree at Texas Southern University.  He was recently inducted into Worldwide Registry and also maintains affiliation with The College of the State Bar of Texas, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the State Bar of Texas.  Ranked as one of Houston’s top lawyers, Mr. Smith will continue to follow the same career path in the coming years.
